| Summary | This article focuses on the construct of employee engagement. The authors argue that the term engagement is used in different ways by scholars and practitioners. They further argue that sometimes the term refers to psychological states, whereas other times it is operationalized as traits. Still other times, it is defined as behaviors. The authors use current theory and research to offer propositions about these different types of engagement. They also provide some predictions regarding the effects of job characteristics and leadership on the different types of engagement. |
