Summary

Focuses on the recent decision by Alabama to apply a financial penalty to state employees that were overweight. However, a decision to do so raises potential issues around both the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and privacy rights. The author suggests that there are ways to avoid legal repercussions, such as by making wellness a part of the organization’s culture, thus having a positive impact on the whole workforce. Furthermore, organizations can reward employees for participating in wellness activities.
