Summary

This study focuses on whether sickness presenteeism (i.e., going to work when ill) has an effect on future sickness absenteeism. Results revealed that when participants came to work ill five or more days in 2000 they were at risk to be absent 30 days or more in 2002 and 2003 even after controlling for numerous variables. The authors suggest that sickness presenteeism may be a leverage point for decreasing future sickness absences.
