Summary

Focuses on the issue of gender discrimination. According to recent research from Development Dimensions International (DDI), women appear to have their backs up against the wall from the earliest days of their careers. Women tend to be under-represented in development programs that start early, which contributes to a smaller number of women at the top. As the development level goes up, men tend to occupy a greater percentage of slots in development programs. Furthermore, because there is not a standardized process for selecting candidates for development programs, many organizations have difficulty creating accountability.

"When you have a high level of employee involvement in regards to the decision-making and problem-solving; and, when employees know that they are not alone to deal with their personal issues; and, when they see opportunities to become healthier with their employer's help; then, that business will be able to count on its greatest resource, its employees."
