Summary

This article presents a model of organizational safety climate and perceptions of trust based on social exchange theory. In a sample of 599 employees from a grocery store chain, results indicate that trust mediates the relationship between safety climate and organizational outcomes. Moreover, the relationship between trust and safety climate was stronger in groups where safety was more salient.
