Summary

Focuses on the issue of employee health and well-being. The author states that health care costs for obese employees are 21% higher than costs for employees at a healthy weight. Overweight or obese employees with other chronic health conditions miss around 450 million more workdays than healthy employees (which costs $153 billion in productivity). Workers compensation costs also increase for obese or overweight employees. The author suggests using biometrics to understand the healthiness of employees currently and then create programs to increase that healthiness. Companies should also educate their employees on the benefits and costs of healthiness/obesity and involve them in creating wellness programming.
