Summary

This study examines the effect of employee engagement on intentions to quit, organizational citizenship behavior, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. Employees from a variety of organizations and positions completed a survey that measured antecedents and consequences of engagement. Results differentiated between job and organization engagement, which were both predicted by organizational support. Job characteristics were shown to predict job engagement, whereas procedural justice predicted organization engagement. Both forms of engagement were shown to lead to job satisfaction, organizational commitment, organizational citizenship behavior, and intentions to quit.
